Geocache Description:

Visit the oldest official park in SF, and check out this ....unique take on recycling!

Buena Vista is the oldest official park in SF, offering fantatstic views of the city, particuluary the north side. While you are there, make sure to also look down, particularly at the storm gutters below the walls that line many of the paths. You might notice that the stone is of a higher quality than much of the masonry in the walls....some even look like marble and granite....and some have......inscriptions?
When the Golden Gate  city cemetaries were cleared in the early 19th centurity, the interred bodies went south to Coma (wink, wink) , but the headstones stayed here, and there were A LOT of them. Public works projects recycled them all over the city- some make up break-waters and sea walls in the Marina and on Ocean Beach, any many of them ended up here- lining the storm gutters!
