New Britain, The Hardware City, was first settled in 1687. During the 1800’s, when manufacturing was on the rise, several companies were founded that eventually merged into what is now known as Stanley Works. It continues to be the city’s fifth largest employer. New Britain is the home for the minor league baseball team The Rock Cats. The city has a diverse ethnic composition with a large number of Polish immigrants.
