Bayou Courtableu forms from many sources locally and merges with Bayou Bouffe North of Washington and at one time empied in the Atchafalaya River just South of Krotx Springs. With the building of the West Atchafalaya levee system about 5 miles East of Port Barre in the 1920's, Bayou Courtableu was effectivly cut off from the river. The Corp of Engineers Built a control structure a couple miles South of hwy 190 and dug a drainage canal that diverts water during high water peroids. This water works it way through the swamps towards Henderson. Bayou courtableu during normal peroids now flows down Bayou teche in Port Barre and works its way all the way to the gulf. This cache satisfies St. Landry Parish and grid 44 of the Delorme.
