In the late 50's and early 60's the Americans invaded. They helped build some amazing things for Thailand, the roads and the rail system..
They also built some very trendy buildings which still remain today... Sukhumvit was fairly scarcely populated at the time and there was a lot of empty land so fairly large tracts were bought or given to US interests. End of the Soi was the Church and a hotel that remain today and glow in their colonial style. After you find the cache have a snoop around there are some great pictures and signs left over.
