Geocache Description:

Cache number three in a series highlighting the founders of the Terrace area. This cache is dedicated to Robert Braun and is located near where Braun Street accesses Braun Island.

Of German decent the Braun Family came from Holland. At the turn of the 20th Century they were living at Port Essington near the mouth of the Skeena River. Prior to WWI and the establishment of Prince Rupert; Robert Braun owned a dairy farm on Kaien Island. He move to what would become known as Braun Island on the Skeena River around 1910-11.  His 160 acre pre-emption covered most of the island. The first library of Terrace was founded by Katie Braun and Cassie Hall in 1929.  Robert spent the remainder of his life living in this area, moving into Terrace in the mid-1920's. Katie Braun pre-deceased Robert by many years, he passed away in Terrace in the late 1950's.
