This is a beautiful circular walk of around 4.5 miles through the Hertfordshire countryside with 19 caches along the way, some traditional, some custom. The paths are my favourite kind, clearly marked and the motorways of the countryside! They are well used with the local horses so please keep a close eye on young cachers and dogs. The ground undulates and travels beside a stream for some of the way and although clear, it does gets very muddy and heavy going in Winter so be sure to bring a change of boots if you're coming by car! Please read the descriptions for Bishop's Bumble 7 & 8 as it will be difficult to complete a full set of smilies unless you do! All hints given are just that, they are merely clues to help you and are no way intended to be directions. If this is not how you like your series, this loop may not be for you. This walk can be done in reverse and if truth be told would probably be easier that way as ascending or going anti-clockwise you will walk up a few inclines! However, there's nothing like a challenge so do go from 1-19 if you feel able!
Parking is free in Silver Leys, locally known as the Rugby Club, although football and squash are also played there regularly. Please be aware that this carpark gets extremely busy on Saturday matchday afternoons and mini and youth training Sunday mornings. If you arrive at these times you may find more parking opposite in a well known supermarket superstore.
Kind permission for these caches has been granted by the local farmer and the Bishop's Stortford Rugby Club.
Sadly ten years have passed since I created this series and the formidable march of progress has swallowed up the lush green fields surrounding the Rugby Club, some caches have suffered because of this and have so been archived. I hope you enjoy what is left.
