Geocache Description:

Take a stroll along the English Riviera.

This is a series of caches replacing the "Welcome to the English Riviera" series, designed to take you on a stroll along the shoreline of this town i call home.

Purchased in 1924 by the "Torquay County Council" as it was known then Abbey Gardens was laid out to comprise of an Ornamental Pond, tennis courts (used in 1924 for a Davis Cup Match), putting green and Italian gardens. Sadly the putting green has now gone, it was partly taken over by the now "deflated" High Flyer baloon, which burst during strong winds in Jan 2012.
Enjoy a nice walk around the gardens and rockery, i seem to recall from my teenage years and early twenties, the council used to place displays just below the Italian garden that i think they entered for the Chelsea flower show, maybe someone else remembers these and can help my memory i think one was of a man about to get on a bus.
