Geocache Description:

This wee series of Caches have all been placed on or near to the bridges of the Belfast and County Down Railway.

The line was finally closed in 1950 after over 100 years service.

The Crest of the Belfast & County Down Railway, incorporating the arms of Belfast & Down

An excellent history of the Railway can be found here, http://www.downrail.co.uk/history/index.htm

and of the Comber-Newtownards branch, here, http://www.comberhistory.com/chs%20railway.htm

This Cache is by way of a supplemental to the series. The rest of the Caches are to be found either on or close to the remaining bridges, or as close as possible to where the bridges now gone stood.

This is slightly different in that there isn't nor has there ever been a bridge here!

There were no less than four level crossings around Comber’s public roads. These consisted of a gate-keeper’s cottage at the track side, and big white wooden gates which were swung out over the railway or the road, depending on what was to be given right of way. The crossing-keeper had to work the gates manually before the arrival of each train.

At Henryville the Cottage still remains, although thoroughly modernised and extended, and the Railway tracks are still in place on the road.

The Cache is a micro and it is placed a short distance from the crossing.
Your search shouldn't disturb anyone and although this road is quiet, the dual carriageway is not too far away and traffic turning onto this wee road will be upon you in no time, so take care with the kids!!
There is no need to search at or near the Cottage.

Log only, so bring a pen.
