Geocache Description:

One of the most attractive parts of the valley,  The nearby footbridge has used a gridstone from the valley in its construction.

This Dam was worked by the Haslams of Ridgeway. The story of how it got its strange name is best told in poem by one of the local children

"Working working always working
trying to mend the dam
All night long we dug and shovelled
Exhausted every man
Morning is coming
Mists are swirling
Going up the hill
Is it the mist or a ghostly lady?
All of us to kill
The wind is blowing, softly sighing
Never feaar it says
Tiredness is the only problem
The lady never slays.

it was not quite as safe as the grey lady or the wind maintained both the Never fear and the Upper Carlton dams were destroyed by the same flood.
