Whether you are an experianced cacher or a novice to the sport there are always things that you can learn. Sometimes your geosense takes you right to the really difficult cache and fails you completely on the one that everyone else finds easiliy. This cache is meant to help you fine tune your cache finding ability. Placed with the permission of the Geauga Park District.
Once you get close to ground zero many of you will know right where to look but there are so many good places maybe some people will have to check a couple before they come up with the find. This is a typical woodland hide.
What classifies as a "typical woodland hide"??? Well in this case the container is a "regular" which gives you an idea of the size. There are several different kinds of hides that qualify as "typical". It coule be something in a hole at the base of a tree it could be under a downed tree. It could be at the base of a tree and hidden under a geopile. This cache falls into one of those categories. I will not tell you which one.
Since I'm making this as a "101" kinda cache for those who don't know what a geopile is, it is a pile of rocks or sticks that conceals a geocache from the casual observer but stands out to a geocacher's trained eye.
Other geo-terms that may be of interest to people:
- Muggle- A term used to describe anyone who is not a geocacher
- Geo-Mobile, Geomoblie- Any vehicle that you use to get to the cache site, can apply to automobiles as well as bicycles, adding the geo prefix to a particular mode of transportation is also acceptable when describing the vehicle used to get you from point a to point b while caching.
- GPS'r- Should be pretty simple but it is used to describe a GPS unit. Usually when you are trying to anthropomorphize your GPS and blame it for bad reception or your searching for a very long time before finding the cache. Technically I believe this started out standing for GPS reciever.
- Geosense- that inate feeling you get when you walk into an area and just know there is a cache there and know where to look... sometimes it takes a little while to kick in
- Ground Zero, GZ- the general location your gps takes you too. Ideally it's where the cache is hidden but it it not always bad sattellie reception can make GZ move around quite a bit sometimes.
Please feel free to include any terms that you can think of that might be of interest to other people. Please remember that this is a family friendly game and please keep your suggestions G rated.
