Wigry to jeziora i lasy. Ale czy tylko? Na pytanie jaka istota jest najstarszą na naszej planecie, większość odpowie: drzewa. Otóż nie, najstarszą jest porost; egzemplarz Wzorca geograficznego (Rhizocarpon geographicum (L.) DC.), znaleziony na Grenlandii liczy sobie około 4.500 lat. Porosty ogólnie są bardzo długowiecznymi roślinami, bez większego wysiłku osiągają kilkaset lat. Te najstarsze żyją oczywiście na kamieniach i skałach. Większa część porostów, jakie zauważycie idąc drogą od strony Muzeum Wigier - przy którym niebawem opublikowany zostanie letterbox - to porosty pokrywające drzewa lub obumarłe drewno. Rośliny te nie gardzą jednak tak glebą, jak i podłożem stworzonym przez człowieka: betonowymi konstrukcjami, drewnianymi płotami czy eternitowymi dachami. Na świecie opisano do dzisiaj ponad 15 tysięcy gatunków tych roślin. W Polsce żyje ich ponad 1600. Należą one tak naprawdę do królestwa grzybów, w którym tworzą odrębną grupę, tzw grzybów lichenizowanych. Ich ciało składa się z grzyba i glonu, a związek ten jest tak ścisły, że prowadzi do powstania nowego organizmu: porostu właśnie.
Jeśli macie ze sobą aparat fotograficzny, nie zapomnijcie utrwalić tych jakże estetycznych roślin na cyfrowej kliszy. A pokazanie owych dzieł w logu byłoby "spełnieniem najskrytszych marzeń" właścicela tego kesza ;)
Wigry: lakes, moors and... lichens!
Wigry is the not only the kingdom of lakes and forests but also lichens. Did you know: the oldest species on our planet is a 4.500 years old map lichen (Rhizocarpon geographicum), living still in Greenland. On the road from Wigry Museum - there will be soon a letterbox there - to this cache you will see many lichens.
Lichens are composite organisms consisting of a fungus - the mycobiont - and a photosynthetic partner, growing together in a symbiotic relationship. The photobiont is usually either a green alga or cyanobacterium. The morphology, physiology and biochemistry of lichens are very different from those of the isolated fungus and alga in culture. Lichens occur in some of the most extreme environments on Earth: arctic tundra, hot deserts, rocky coasts, and toxic slag heaps. However, they are also abundant as epiphytes on leaves and branches in rain forests and temperate woodland, on bare rock, including walls and gravestones, and on exposed soil surfaces in otherwise mesic habitats. The roofs of many buildings have lichens growing on them. Lichens are widespread and may be long-lived.

Bei Wigry denkt man direkt an den See und all die schönen Wälder. Aber gibt es nur diese? Welches Wesen ist das älteste auf der Welt? Die meisten würden sagen, sicherlich ein Baum. Leider, falsch. Diesen Titel trägt ein Exemplar der Landkartenflechte (Rhizocarpon geographicum (L.) DC.), gefunden auf Grönland: ca. 4.500 Jahre alt. Flechten sind sehr langlebig, ohne Probleme schaffen sie einige Jahrhunderte. Am meisten wachsen sie auf Steinen, Felsen und natürlich auf Bäumen, Zäunen, Dächern. Knapp 15 Tausend Arten davon kennt die Menschheit.
Einige davon kann man hier in der Umgebung auf all den Stämmen bewundern und... ablichten ;)
