Geocache Description:

The cache is at the given coordinates but this is a challenge cache and to log it you must fulfill certain criteria...

I like finding remote caches and I thought that I'd encourage others to do the same...

There are 2 ways in which you can qualify for this cache:-
  • either you must have found a cache in the UK other than this one which doesn't have another cache within 5km.
  • or you must have found 2 caches in the UK which are at least 4km from a public road.

The 5km proximity applies at the moment you log this cache and not when you found the qualifying cache, so if you make a trip to a remote cache and a new one is published closer than 5km to it then sorry, but you can't use that cache. Archived caches can be counted as long as their location still has no cache within 5km when you log a find on this cache.

There are several ways to check for distance from a road - paper maps, online tools, Memory Map, Geocaching Map Enhancements browser plugin. I'll probably be checking using GME and I'll be using a combination of Google and Ordnance Survey 1:50000 scale. You can ignore any road which is marked as 'Other road, drive or track', 'Path', 'Byway'.
The only roads to check for are motorways, A/B roads, yellow roads (generally more/less than 4m wide)

Because of the problem of unknown final waypoints the only cache types which qualify for this challenge are traditionals, traditional letterboxes, non-moving Virtuals, Earthcaches and challenge caches which are at the stated coordinates
Because it is not straightforward to see its past locations you may ignore the moving Ye Ole Survey Monuments when checking 5km proximity.

The actual hide is probably a D2.5.

When you log this cache please include the remote cache(s) with which you qualify and when you found it.

I chose this location for a couple of reasons -
  • when the cache was placed there was no other cache within 6.5km
  • it provides a good view of Jerry's Linn which is a rather impressive waterfall when the river is full.

Thanks to the Forestry Commission for permission to place the cache. Although it's on a footpath to get close you may need to walk on forestry tracks so please be aware that there may be vehicles working on them. Please don't climb any timber stacks.
