This is the first cache I have hidden and I hope that you enjoy. Located on the opposite side of Loch Linnhe from Fort William the views from this site are breathtaking. The only drawback to finding the cache is the midges, which are most prevalent between June and August. They do not come out, however, when it is sunny, or windy and then usually only at dawn and dusk.
A regular cylindrical cache found near a local view point next to Loch Linnhe.
There is a small ferry that leaves from the pier in Fort William and drops you about 500 yards away. The ferry runs four times a day Monday to Saturday and costs, at time of publishing, £1.50 per adult each way. Alternatively you can drive round the loch by taking the A830 to Mallaig turning left onto the A861 signposted Strontian. About 10 miles down this single track road you will find ample parking and the cache is not far away.
Once you have found this cache take a few minutes to read the notices and marvel at what is the largest mountain range in Great Britain. Whilst there see if you can see our local family of otters, some grey and common seals, buzzards, ravens and plenty of seagulls. If you are really lucky you may see a Sea Eagle or a Golden Eagle but these magnificent birds are a rare sighting. Herons, pine martins and red squirrels live in the surrounding woods along with red deer and the Scottish wildcat.
