This is meant to be an easy hide. You are looking for a magnetic film cannister at the end of a guard rail. Bring a writing instrument. I selected a location that provides plenty of room to pull safely off the road. US-79 is technically a north-south highway. This cache is on the northbound side.
Consider this a payback for a couple of area cachers that helped me quite a bit. Each cache in the series will highlight a famous University of Illinois alum.
Although I usually hate them, brief logs are okay. However, if you find several in the series, I would appreciate one longer log that describes your experience.
Red Grange attended the University of Illinois and played football from 1922-1924. In 1923, as a sophomore, he led Illinois to an undefeated season and the national championship. His greatest performance came on October 18, 1924 against the University of Michigan. The game christened the new Memorial Stadium (still in use today). Michigan was in the running that year for the national championship. Grange ran the opening kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown. He scored three more touchdowns on runs of 67, 56, and 44 yards in the next twelve minutes and finished the game with five touchdowns to help Illinois win 39-14. Nicknamed "The Galloping Ghost," Grange went on to play 10 seasons in the National Football League, mostly for the Chicago Bears, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
