Geocache Description:

Historic Hamilton will be a series of caches that serve to bring cachers to historic places in and around the City of Hamilton. These caches can be placed by anyone, and are not limited to one CO. If you know of a historic place that you would like to bring people to, feel free to add it to the series!

Cache is a small camo'd lock-n-lock container that had a logbook and dollar store trinkets. Please bring your own writing instrument, and replace cache as found. Parking is available one of the numerous side streets near the cache. DO NOT access the cache from Highway 403.

When hiking in the area, I came across this really cool stone wall. Obviously, the high school and university students in Westdale have already found it! lol I'm not sure the history behind it, but if anyone does know, please feel free to share. Cache is well hidden in hopes of not bringing attention from muggles.

Here is some history as provided by bruce iroquoia:

The location is an old Rifle Range. This 1890's West Hamilton Rifle Range was built following the outbreak of the South African War.

They would fire at targets up towards the escarpment.

In 1906 when the Brantford and Hamilton Radial Line was built a stone and steel wall was built to protect the passengers.

The wall still exists up above the 403 along the old Radial Line, which is now a rail trail. Dex4's Wall Of Chedoke Trail.

Congratulations to Rotemma on the FTF!
