The oak of Saeul (Le chêne de Saeul) is the third largest oak-tree in Luxembourg. Its estimated age is around 280 years. This remarkable tree is located in the place called Hëlzent – it was a market place in the early 20th century, surrounded by seven other oaks at that time. In 1974, the oak of Saeul was added to the list of National monuments and is considered to be the most spectacular of the oak trees growing in Luxembourg.
The oak of Saeul remains our finest specimen of its class and it does all honor to the name scientists have given to the genus 'Quercus', a word that seems to be derived from the Celtic "Kaer quez", which means "a beautiful tree".

Le chêne remarquable de Saeul est le troisième plus gros chêne du Luxembourg. L'âge du chêne est estimé à environ 280 ans. Au début du XXe siècle, un marché se tenait à cet endroit, où se trouvaient alors sept autres chênes. Classé monument national depuis 1974, il est le plus imposant des chênes du Luxembourg.
Le tronc, qui est relativement court et penché, porte une couronne très développée, aux proportions équilibrées, ce qui tend à indiquer qu'elle a pu se développer librement pendant au moins plusieurs dizaines d'années, sans être gênée par d'autres arbres dans son voisinage.
Le chêne rouvre de Saeul reste néanmoins notre plus beau spécimen de sa catégorie et il fait tout honneur au nom que les scientifiques ont donné au genre «Quercus», mot qui semble être dérivé du celtique «Kaer quez», ce qui signifie «bel arbre».
