This is my first night cache. Please stay on the designated trail until instructed to do otherwise. The park closes at 11pm. This cache has been placed by permission from Lake Metroparks. Congrats to amarana13, BirdsIView, chfshome, falamazar, green eyed dragonfly karen1962, kodiakwoodsman for FTF!
Since the quest for destroying the one ring has prevailed, some claim that Sauron was not completely destroyed in the process. Legend has it that Sauron's spirit fled to Mirkwood (aka Chapin Forest) so he can regain strength and rebuild his forces. If this legend proves true, then more will need to be done in order to save Middle Earth from Sauron's evil plot to destroy it's people. Your quest is to travel to Mirkwood and find out if the Spirit of Sauron lurkes in the old fortress of Dol Guldur. But there is one catch, you must travel at night because the only way to find Dol Guldur is by flashing a light along the left side of the trail to reveal hidden reflectors that lead the way to it. Your quest lies along the Beech Woods Loop Trail. The listed coordinates are where you should start on the Loop. When you come to an intersection, you will remain on the Beech Woods Loop Trail. Shine your light to reveal reflectors in the direction you should go. Eventually you will come to a tree that contains several reflectors on it. Leave the trail at this tree while continuing to follow single reflectors off the trail until you come to one last tree of several reflectors. The treasure of Sauron should be within 5 ft of the tree. Once you find Sauron's treasure, open it carefully because if his spirit still exists, you will disturb it and wreak havoc on all of Middle Earth. If his spirit does not appear, then you are welcome to the treasure that is contained inside, but don't forget if you take something out to put something back in of equal or greater value for other quest seekers to find! Please make sure you put the cache back the way you found it. To find your way out, head back to the trail loop you were traveling on and follow it in the direction were heading before you left the trail. It will loop back to parking lot.
