SELAKANO Crete  Ierapetra   
 ΣΕΛΑΚΑΝΟ Κρήτη Ιεράπετρα

ΣΕΛΑΚΑΝΟ

Το Σελάκανο   http://www.cretanbeaches.com/Information/Forested-Areas/selakano-wood/ βρίσκεται 35 Km βορειοδυτικά της Ιεράπετρας . Είναι κομμάτι του ορεινού όγκου της οροσειράς της Δίκτης στα νοτιοανατολικά της. Βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο περίπου 950 m.

Θα σας προτείνω δύο διαφορετικές διαδρομές που μου φαίνεται πιο εύκολο να περιγραφούν.

 Η πρώτη ΣΕΛΑΚΑΝΟ 1 http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2036287 είναι η απαραίτητη νομίζω για να καταλάβει κανείς που βρίσκεται .

 Η δεύτερη ΣΕΛΑΚΑΝΟ 2  http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2036445  είναι μια μικρή πεζοπορία σε  μονοπάτι, διάρκειας περίπου 1,5 ώρας. Το μονοπάτι ξεκινά  από το χωματόδρομο της πορείας  ΣΕΛΑΚΑΝΟ 1  περίπου στα 2.5 Κm αν τον ξεκινήσετε στρίβοντας αριστερά στο σημείο R2. Είναι τμήμα του μονοπατιού που φθάνει στο Μεταξοχώρι αλλά προτείνω το αρχικό ευδιάκριτο τμήμα του, μέχρι ένα μικρό ερειπωμένο πέτρινο κτίσμα, που δεν έχει ιδιαίτερες υψομετρικές διαφορές και είναι συνεχώς μέσα στο δάσος. Θα το κάνετε πήγαινε έλα για να γυρίσετε πίσω στο αυτοκίνητό σας. Σε κάποιο σημείο το μονοπάτι τέμνει κάθετα το φαράγγι που είναι πολύ όμορφο. Εκεί σας προτείνω να περπατήσετε  μέσα στο φαράγγι, πάλι μπρος πίσω, όσο σας επιτρέπει ο χρόνος σας, οι αντοχές σας αλλά και το φαράγγι γιατί δεν είναι βατό σε όλο το μήκος του.

Την κρύπτη την έχω βάλει στα πρώτα λεπτά της πεζοπορίας στο μονοπάτι αυτό, αλλά λίγο έξω από αυτό για να σας δώσω την ευκαιρία να δείτε λίγο ένα μικρό μέρος του φαραγγιού από ψηλά. Το έβαλα χειμώνα και δεν ξέρω αν εκεί το καλοκαίρι έχει κυψέλες . Προσοχή λοιπόν.


 SELAKANO

Selakano http://www.cretanbeaches.com/Information/Forested-Areas/selakano-wood/ is 35 Km away from Ierapetra. It is in 950m height and it is part of mountain Dikti.

Selakano is a large area and there are many dirt roads and paths. I suggest you two tracks:

The first one SELAKANO 1 http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2036287 is about 9 km long on dirt roads and you can either hike or drive along it.

The second one SELAKANO 2  http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2036445 is part of the path that leads you to Metaksochori. You find the start of the path in your trail SELAKANO 1, about 2.5 Km after you have turn left at the point R2. You need 1 1/2 hours to go until you reach a damaged stone house and return to your car. The path until there is clear, easy and intersects a beautiful gorge. If you want, you can walk in the gorge for as long as you wish and you can.

You can find the cache after some minutes of walking along the path but it’s not on the path itself. I hid it there because I wanted to give you the chance to have a look at a small part of the gorge from above. I put it in wintertime and there were no bee hives or bees in Selakano. If you go in summertime, be careful in case there are bees in the cache area.
