Geocache Description:

Enjoy the beathtaking scenery of Malham Cove and Tarn while hunting for this geocache.
Situated midway between a beautiful glacial lake and the famous limestone pavement, stop a while and enjoy a view from a  different perspective, and maybe find something to keep the kids amused!

If you set off from near the field studies centre at Malham Tarn, make sure to watch out for giant spiders! The field studies centre is located in Malham Tarn House, once a majestic stately home and the palce where in 1858, whilst visiting, the author Charles Kingsley was inspired to write the water-babies.

Follow the path around the lake (with a brief stop in the bird hide). Malham Tarn is a beautiful glacial lake with crystal clear water.  It is 377 metres (1,237 ft) above sea level, making it the highest lake in England and one of only eight upland alkine lakes in Europe.
The walk will then lead across moorland, following part of the Pennine way, towards Malham Cove and the limestone pavement.

Finding the cache will let you enjoy views over Malham and the limestone pavement. This cache was put together by our children and their friend, I hope you enjoy finding it as much as we did placing it.

Malham Cove is a natural limestone formation, formed at the end of the last ice age, when a waterfall would have cascaded over the top. No waterfall today but definately worth a visit. Malham Cove is also one of the places visited by Harry and Hermione in the film The Deathly Hallows.

You can now head back towards the Tarn, either the way you came or by following a different path that takes you through Ing Scar before returning you to the lake.

Of course you can also approach the walk from the village of Malham, walk along the river towards the cove and climb the 400 stone steps to the top before heading towards the Tarn. Cache placed with the kind permission of the National Trust.
