Hike it, boat it, swim it, wade it, or bike it. Take your pick. Either route you chose will take some effort. I rode my bike on some single track that was hitherto unknown to me.
For years we would pass by here in the canoe or kayak. At the big bend in the river there are always eagles. There's a waypoint in my GPSr called it Eagle Bend. I didn't see any eagles today but I heard them.
This was my first exploration south of the Econ. A lot of searching was involved to find a hiding spot. No big trees in sight. Since the bulk of the ride is in palmettos that is where the cache ended up. It is on a bluff overlooking a swampy section that used to be part of the river. It needed to be high enough to be out of the flood zone. This one will have to be about the journey. I will return eventually for more exploration. The ride was 7.5 miles in and out.
There is a velcro tether on the cache for now. It is blue. I will return with a better tether.
Starting at the Flagler Trail head on the east/west part of Snow Hill Rd. I rode north to the bridge and then west on the mtn bike trails. It isn't a difficult ride even while pulling a trailer. The trail goes through a pines and palmettos area that will probably be brutally hot on the summer. Most the ride is through palmettos but the trail is well traveled and open. Most important is to bring more water than you think you will need.
I have given various parking areas. Most have a two dollar fee paid at a kiosk. Bring a few extra ones just in case they change the rate. The canoe launce and the Flagler Trail parking don't have a pay station.
