Geocache Description:

A magnetic micro, right on the trail.

A group of cachers have gathered together to place caches along The Hertfordshire Way; a 194 mile circular route along public rights-of-way within the County of Hertfordshire. Rather than caches at every 0.1 mile we have tried to put together interesting hides with cool Bonus Caches.

Leg 3 stretches from Willian to Codicote for 11.8 miles. As you walk the path collect the information you need to find the Bonus Cache at waypoints along the route. We advise that you bring sturdy boots for very muddy terrain and a high visibility vest with you because a couple of short sections require walking along the road.

Cache Details
The manor of Almshoebury is mentioned in the Domesday Book – when the tenant-in-chief is recorded as Bishop Odo (of Bayeux Tapestry fame). At the time, it housed 3 smallholders, ploughland and woodland supporting 60 pigs.

In later mediaeval times, the park reputedly played host to Isabella wife of Edward II and her daughter, who are said to have hunted here on one occasion. The old manor-house is long-since demolished and its site occupied by the modern-day farm.

You must approach this cache along the Hertfordshire Way, so please don't try to drive up the farm access road. This cache should not be done at night.

Bonus Waypoints
The following Bonus Cache waypoints can be found close to this cache and en route to the next cache.

BonusG - N 51 54.808 W 000 14.962 - How many waymarker arrows adorn the post? The answer is BonusG

BonusH - N51 54.807 W000 15.492 - The pump by G J Ell & Sons of Luton has a three-digit number. This is BonusH.

To the Next Cache
Head down the hill across the flint-covered field. When you emerge on the main road, cross with great care and turn right towards the pub. Turn left just before the pub and take the path to its left that heads left. Continue up the hill along the marked trail. Do not enter the small copse containing Minsden Chapel as it is currently unsafe, so go past the entrance (and the KEEP OUT signs).
