Chester Road Mill
Now known as The Regency Mill, but originally named Chester Road Mill, this Macclesfield landmark is a four storey pedimented mill on the A537 Chester Road. The “pediment” is the triangular bit on top with the clock in it. It was built in 1790 if you believe the date above the door (or around 1820 if you believe multiple internet sources), and was granted listed building status in 1949. The mill is built in brick with a welsh slate roof.
The original occupants were Hapgood and Parker. The mill was powered by a 12hp steam engine housed in an adjacent building, and was notable for being an integrated silk mill, which means that silk manufacture, throwing, weaving and dyeing were all done on the premises. It has subsequently been used as a card factory and a joinery works.
Local legend says the big grey shed in front of the mill is full of Ferraris.
Please use stealth as the site is overlooked.
