This cache is a second designed to give the history of Route 6 in Dartmouth, MA. When you come to this location you will no longer see what was once an amusement park or that a roller coaster ever existed. “The Comet” was the name of the roller coaster at Lincoln Park. There once was a time that you didn’t have to drive 2 hours to Western Massachusetts to go to an amusement park to have fun (Six Flags). We had our own Six Flags right here in Dartmouth, MA. As a small kid I remember driving to Lincoln Park and going to Kiddy Land. Riding the kiddy rides like the duck or swan rides which went up and down and around in circles, made you feel like you were cool stuff. Don’t forget the train that took you around Kiddy Land and along side of the roller coaster I can remember when I was small there were many times I didn’t want to get off to give some else a turn. Man, did I like riding the train as a little boy! I remember on Easter Sunday dressing up in a navy blue suit, (remember this was the 50’s), with a white shirt and necktie to go Easter egg hunting at Lincoln Park,(I don’t remember us wearing jeans back then). That was a yearly family outing back in the day. As I grew up Lincoln Park became the place to have our high school (New Bedford High School) senior prom in the large Ball Room. Later in age the right of passage came and I finally got permission from my parent to ride the big roller coaster “The Comet” and all of the adult rides. On the 4th of July Lincoln Park was THE place to watch the fireworks with your date and or friends, and I can still remember the smell of claim cakes, hamburgers and popcorn. In those days there was no admission to go into the park unlike Six Flags. Back then admission was free and you purchased 13 tickets for a $1.00 at the various ticket booths around the park. What was good about that you could go for the food or walk around the amusement park. Pencils have been provided but if you want to use a pen that is fine. The container is a rather large camouflage pill bottle. Once you drive to the location you will immediately have a pretty good idea where the container is located. There is a narrow shoulder where you can park your car. I would suggest using your hazard light despite the road isn't heavily traveled. Note: Here is a link to some rare footage of Lincoln Park Hope you enjoy it! Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFJSPHjyFKs Please replace container in the location you found it. Thank you!
