Tangiaro Kiwi Retreat is the brainchild of New Zealanders, Bruce and Anne Clegg, who purchased this land - approx 800 acres, in 2000. They were pleased to have secured this extremely valuable piece of New Zealand flora and fauna, and the majority of the land has been protected by the QE II Natural Trust.
The Department of Conservation regards this block as extremely important – as it contains one of the highest populations of Kiwi birds on privately owned land in the Coromandel.
Bruce and Anne decided on the concept of an eco-tourist retreat in 2001 and went about designing and procuring the necessary consents to make this happen. In August 2002 final resource consent was granted.
The concept for the property is to create a luxury retreat, with modern selfcontained, stand alone lodges, that will give the opportunity for guests to fully appreciate the unique flora and fauna that exists on this key ecological site.
