Geocache Description:

An energetic 1.5 mile hike along a well defined ridgeline trail to a tall hill overlooking the Pahvant Valley. Some minor scrambles over low cliff formations.

Public access is from the west, over BLM and Forest Service lands. The recommended route is a well defined trail which begins on a ridge overlooking Oak City. This hill has a number of microwave and television antennas located on it. A truck or other higher clearance vehicle is recommended to access the trailhead. The more adventurous can manage the hill in a car with great care given to watching for large rocks in the road. If the road to the trail is very wet, muddy or snow-covered, don't risk it. You could also plan a route to the cache location along any of the adjacent ridges.

The trail begins on the ridgetop at an earthen barricade just southeast of a pole mounted antenna dish. The trail follows the ridgeline and is mostly firm, but does have a few loose rocks in the steeper spots. It ends at an old rock fire-ring. From there you must choose your best route to the cache. The final climb of about 300 yards is much steeper than the trail. It is loose and rocky in places.

From the top you will have spectacular views of the Pahvant Valley. You can see Notch Peak and Delta to the west. The Intermountain Power Plant and Sevier River are northwest. Oak City is nearby on the north and in the distance, Little Sahara and Sand Mountain. Eastward is Oak Creek Canyon. Watch for deer and other wildlife in the canyons. If you encounter a horde of bugs, they are likely Mormon Crickets.

Bring plenty of water, especially in the warmer months. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Families should evaluate whether this is an appropriate hike for younger children. This cache may be very difficult to reach in snow.

We hope you enjoy this hunt and wish you a safe hike.
