Geocache Description:

Rainford is located in Merseyside, England. It is approximately five miles from the town of St. Helens, and ten to fifteen miles from Liverpool. Other surrounding villages include Billinge, King's Moss, Crawford and the curiously titled Crank. There are three primary schools and also a very large secondary schoo which also has an attached post-sixteen college. Related Guide entries include the Prep Room and Prep Room Technicians. The most important thing to any visitor is the number and quality of public houses. Rainford has several. Some are more traditional, quiet, friendly English pubs whereas others sometimes have discos, and some are now orientated towards being restaurants, and two of the more central ones are.. a bit rough. There aren't really any specialist shops.. just the usual compliment of food shops, newsagent, fruit shops, bakeries etc. that would be expected of a small English village. You'll find that the residents of Rainford are, on the whole, an agreeable bunch. There is, however, a small-to-medium compliment of ruffians who feel that breaking things and insulting random people are important parts of a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Just the other day, I saw a young scallywag kick a passing lamp-post (that is, he was passing the lamp-post and not the other way around). He had obviously discovered that kicking these particular posts caused them to turn off for a minute or so. He gleefully continued down the street, booting innocent lamps until the entire street was plunged into total darkness. This, perhaps, says something about the available youth leisure activities in Rainford. Rainford has its own compliment of minor celebrities. UK downhill mountain-biking champion Nigel Page lives here, which is odd seeing as Rainford is not at all mountainous. Writer Willy Russell attended Rainford High School. Perhaps our most famous export is TV buffoon Keith "Cheggers" Chegwin, whose parents still live in the Village. Rainford is clearly not the best place to live on the planet, but it is far from the worst. As far as a holiday destination goes.. well, it doesn't.
