A short, but scenic, 2.5 km circular hike to a small waterfall that overlooks the Witfontein forest below.
The trail starts at the Witfontein Reserve Office. Parking is available in front of the office.
Enter the trail at the gate and follow the Forest buzzard trail signs. The cache is located at the waterfall and you will need to climb onto the rocks to get to it. Even though this is a very small stream and not much of a waterfall, it’s still high. So please watch your step when climbing over and down the rock surface.
Directions to Witfontein: From the Traffic Circle in Heatherpark in front of the Engen filling station, exit towards Oudshoorn on the N9/N12. Drive about 800 m then turn right onto the Montagu Pass road. The road makes a left turn and becomes a gravel road. From here it is 400 m to the turnoff to the right for the Witfontein Offices.
There is an alternative starting point to this trail which makes the hike 5km. It’s a beautiful route and easy to find. Its starts at the end of Arbour road in Glen Barry, George. This is also the route we took on the day of hiding the cache. Enjoy.
