Geocache Description:

'the End of the LineS...' is a micro sized traditional cache hidden in the Campbell Tract, south of East Tudor Road and between Elmore on the west and Campbell Airstrip Road on the East.

The 'LineS' are a non electrical set of four cables that pass through the trees in the Campbell Tract. There are 'hoops' hanging from each cable with 'spreaders' keeping the 'lineS' in a square arrangement. Wooden poles hold the 'LineS' up in the air. However, some of the poles have broken and the 'lineS' are on the ground in some areas. At the cache location, there are some 'bellows' of some sort hanging up on the 'LineS'. I wonder what their purpose was/is ?!?!?!?

Rumor has it that the 'LineS' supported communication lines for the nearby airfield which was built during WWII. Did you know the airfield was built for the defense of the Anchorage area during WWII? For more information about the origins of the airfield see Campbell Tract Then and Now. You can find a plethora of other information about the 730 acre Campbell Tract through this link also.

The cache is available year round. However, during snow season, be aware of the 'use' of the trails you hike and limit yourself to the 'multi' use trails in the area. During warmer times, watch out for bears, moose with calves and be prepared for the 'Alaskan Air Force'!

Come find this cache and the many others in the area and see what other bits of history you might encounter while doing so!!! When you log your visit, share what history you know and what other things you find while exploring the area!!!
