A. General Information:
The City of Albuquerque has a series of urban Multiple Use trials for bicycle and pedestrian traffic. These can be used to safely commute to local activities or across the city. I’ll place caches as I can towards Mariposa Basin Park to fill in this part of the grid. Please be aware of passing muggles and rehide the caches carefully.
B. Safety:
This may appear to be a calm area in the suburbs. However, any local will tell you that auto accidents occur daily. Therefore, never park on I-40 or Unser. (Refer to section C for nearby parking suggestions.) And, be aware of our dessert habitat, i.e.: plants and animals that poke, stab, sting, bite, or cause really bad smells.
C. Nearby Parking Suggestions:
At the end of Tarrington Rd. N 35° 05.856’ W 106° 43.543’
At the end of Hanover Rd. N 35° 06.035’ W 106° 43.742’
D. Cache Specific Information:
Javelina Crossing: Back in 1998, I was a young engineer working in tech support on the swing shift. Shortly before then, Unser was built and there was only desert here. But, it was the shortest way home. So, I came zipping down the exit in the wee hours and slammed on the brakes at the location just west of you that became a crosswalk a few years ago. Lucky for me, the javelina in my path found a higher gear and got out of the way. I sat there for a moment wondering how a javelina got here and why it was running in the first place. (They don’t live this far north.) To this day, that javelina is the only thing I’ve ever seen crossing there.
Don’t forget to pickup Dr. Kohavis’ Hanover Tonic GC1KWGT and learn the geocaching dance moves described in this cache. I’ll give you another chance to show off your moves further up the trail.
If you parked at Laurelwood Park, as you look down Hanover, you will see your car about 7 blocks away. If you are continuing up the trail, you may want to move it up at this time. This is also your short-cut back to the first few caches. We’re now about a quarter of the way to Mariposa Park with more trail to come soon.
Congratulations to wolf11469 for FTF! And, for finding #6 to #10 in 16 minutes. It took me far longer to place them.
