The Henham Dragon hasn't been sighted in centuries- so if you spot it please let us know!
‘They espied the serpent as he lay on a hillock beaking himself again in the sun, where they beheld his full proportion, being as near as they could guess 8 or 9 foot long, the smallest part of him about the bigness of a man's leg, on the middle as big as a man's thigh, his eyes were very large and piercing, about the bigness of a sheep’s eye, in his mouth he had two row of teeth which appeared to their sight very white and sharp, and on his back he had two wings indifferent large, but not proportionable to the rest of his body, they judging them not to be above two handfuls long, and when spreaded, not to extend from the top of one wing to the utmost end of the other above two foot at the moll, and therefore altogether too weak to carry such an unwieldy body.’
Extract from the pamphlet 'The Flying Serpent or Strange News Out of Essex, 1669.’
The ‘Imagination Wander’ is a figure of eight loop, approximately 2.5 km long, around the footpaths of the village of Henham. While there are sections of road, most of the caches can only be found by venturing into the fields, so go on, get those wellies on! Due to the nature of the loop, it is unfortunately not wheelchair or buggy accessible.
Parking is available either at the church (grab the Henham Church Micro as you pass!) or on the High Street.
The caches are numbered but feel free to collect them in reverse order, or indeed whatever order you like! If you grab them in numerical order it takes you on a tour of the village’s walks, suitable for children and dogs. The caches themselves are based on the imaginative games my charges and I play together (I nanny for a family in the village), so all of the caches are very child friendly and most have goodies inside! We hope you enjoy the village and letting your imagination wander.
The cache; We wouldn't be so silly as to ask you to search for a dragon...you are looking for a dragon EGG! The cache contains only a logbook so bring a pen. Please cover over so that it isn't seen from the footpath.
Congratulations to ExpectTheUnexpected on being FTF!
