This is the first of our "Gone but not Forgotten" series, and is in loving memory of our father.
As the only son of a farmer, Dad really had no choice but to become a farmer himself. Farm chores in the 1950's, were very "hands-on", and time consuming. Cows were milked by hand, firewood chopped, wheat thrashed and manure forked. It was not an easy life, but our father seemed quite content, especially when he was seated on a tractor, or when he was caring for the livestock in the barn. Dad was thrilled to get two Harveststore silos in the ‘80s, as they made his chores much easier.
Our dad's house, for his last 44 years, that he helped to build, can be viewed from the location of this cache. Just look north, toward the top of the hill, through the trees, and you'll see it.
Dad died on Aug. 16th, 2008 at the age of 79. He was good-natured, kind and patient, hard-working and out-going. If the weather has been wet, or if you are looking for this one in the spring, boots would be helpful.
