Geocache Description:

Het gebied Woensel-Noord is ingedeeld in vier wijken en 21 buurten.

't Hool is een buurt in de wijk Ontginning, in het stadsdeel Woensel-Noord in de Nederlandse stad Eindhoven.

De buurt 't Hool is vernoemd naar het Hoolstraatje dat ten noorden van de buurt liep.

De buurt is begin zeventiger jaren van de 20e eeuw ontworpen door architect Jacob Bakema, in opdracht van `buurt en Huis´, een groep medewerkers van het Philips Natlab.
De doelstelling was het ontwikkelen van een ‘democratische buurt´, waarin maatschappelijke klassen waren vermengd, net als verschillende levensopvattingen, en er ruimte was voor inspraak en betrokkenheid van bewoners.
De buurt ´t Hool is dan ook te beschouwen als een afspiegeling van Bakema´s pleidooi voor het centraal stellen van de mens in de buurt, zoals uitgesproken in de tv-serie ´Van stoel tot stad´.

De buurt is een ´dubbelbuurt´, een tweedelige opbouw, gespiegeld om een groene middenzone.
De bebouwing bestaat uit een hoge buitenwand (met split-level woningen) en een noord-rand gevormd door flats, met daarbinnen rijenhuizen in twee en drie bouwlagen, drive-in woningen, geschakelde patiowoningen en vrijstaande villa’s; in totaal 14 verschillende woningtypen. Speciale aandacht is besteed aan de overgangen tussen openbaar en privé-ruimte, ondermeer door groenzones, muurtjes en pergola´s.
De verschijningsvorm en materiaaluitdrukking is robuust en natuurlijk, en tegelijkertijd precies in zijn detaillering.

De groenstrook in het midden is alleen toegankelijk voor voetgangers en fietsers.

´t Hool is een gaaf voorbeeld van stedenbouwkundige architectuur, waarbij woning en buurt, privé- en openbaar groen in onderlinge samenhang zijn ontworpen. Door die samenhang kenmerkt ´t Hool zich als een bijzondere en waardevolle sculpturale compositie, een architectonisch Gesamtkunstwerk.

The area Woensel-Noord is divided into four districts and 21 neighborhoods..

't Hool is a neighborhood in the District Ontginning, in the city part Woensel-Noord in the Dutch city of Eindhoven.


The neighborhood 't Hool is named after the Hoolstreet that ran north of the neighborhood.

The neighborhood is designed in the early seventies of the 20th century, by architect Jacob Bakema and commissioned by 'Neighborhood and House', a group of employees of the Philips Natlab.
The objective was to develop a 'democratic neighborhood' in which social classes were mixed, as different views of life, and there was space for participation and involvement of residents.
The neighborhood 't Hool is therefore to be regarded as a reflection of Bakema's plea for the centrality of man in the neighborhood, as expressed in the TV series 'From chair to city'.

The neighborhood is a "double close", a two-piece construction, mirrored to a green central area.
The structure consists of a high outer wall (with split-level homes) and a north-edge formed by flats, with inside rows of houses in two and three storeys, drive-in homes, terraced patio homes and detached villas, a total of 14 different housing types. Special attention is paid to the transitions between public and private space, amongst others by green areas, walls and pergolas.
The appearance and material expression is robust and natural, while exact in its detailing.

The green area in the middle is only accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.

'T Hool is a cool example of urban architecture, in which home and neighborhood, private and public green are designed in conjunction with each other. Through that connection 't Hool characterizes itself as a special and valuable sculptural composition, an architectural Gesamtart.
