The aim of the event is to have fun, meet a few people and to try and encourage others to come along and give caching a try in the woods. The open afternoon will be held on the Sunday afternoon of the 5th May, kicking off at 1:30pm and running through until about 4pm.
We seem to suffer from extreme weather whenever we run events in this park, from being snowed off to heatwaves. Here's hoping we can repeat the sunshine of the last two years (and not the snow that cancelled to other events at Beecraigs!)
The format for the afternoon will be very relaxed, with an information table about geocaching, set up just up from the Balvormie Car Park (co-ordinates for the event are to the car park). Any donations of cakes would be appreciated,
If the car park is full, there is an overflow car park over the road, or car parks at the visitors centre and loch.
There will be some dummy, muggle friendly, non loggable caches hidden around the park for the afternoon. These caches will have wooden pieces in to make another animal for your extensive collections. These caches will be close to the established paths in Beecraigs so suitable for prams, buggies and wheelchairs to do the route (although wheelchair users may need additional help to retrieve some of the boxes).
It is anticipated that cachers can take the interested muggles around these in small groups and explain to them how geocaching works.
Extra cakes for those cachers who take a muggle round!
Forestry work is still ongoing in Beecraigs, but some new caches will be put out for cachers to find. The Mining series will still be there too (FFB can be bribed for the co-ords for these caches, all it takes is a donation to the Mega 2014 fund!)
The event is published in the West Lothian forestry commission leaflets, cachers support would be appreciated, we were all newbies once.
Thanks to the Rangers for allowing this event and all the caches.
