Pinaceae is the family of trees commonly called conifers or evergreens. This is a three stage multi-cache with each stage hidden in one of the species of Pinaceae trees found at Tracy Creek State Forest: eastern white pine, red pine, and Canada hemlock.
Eastern white pine (Pinus strobes) has clusters of five needles; each needle is 3 to 5 inches long.
Red pine (Pinus resinosa) has clusters of two brittle needles; each needle is 3 to 8 inches long.
Canada hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) has flat needles; each needle is less than one inch long.
