Geocache Description:

Beagle-nose thought there were not enough ammo cans around so she wanted to put another one out with lots of stuff. This one is located in High Cliff State Park. Available in winter but not winter friendly.

When we measured this tree it was large enough to be the current Wisconsin Champion Staghorn Sumac. Unfortunately the Wisconsin Champion Tree Program is in limbo right now and the web site is down.

If the Wisconsin Champion Tree program was up and running this tree would now be a national champion with the National Register of Big Trees.

The cache location is very near the sumac tree that is the subject of this cache. If you visit Champion Tree : Eastern Cottonwood first, don't be dissapointed by the size of this tree because sumacs are short lived and do not get very big.

Criteria for entry into the Wisconsin Champion Trees is based on a formula that includes circumference, height and crown spread. If the program comes back to life you will be able to view this tree's stats on the web site.
