Geocache Description:

A fairly busy location for a cache but Chatteris is definitely lacking!  It's the first I have set and feedback is always appreciated in your log or by email.  There is plenty of free parking available in the area and a nice market on a Friday morning!

This is an ideal cache and dash one off geocache located in the market town of Chatteris.  It is a busy area during the day so stealth is required, however, be aware that the nearby business is variously occupied by geocaching members of Salix :), Perditus and TOOT Phoenix so furtling about in the vicinity during business hours is unlikely to raise their suspicions and they may even give you a wave!

Chatteris is one of four market towns in the Fenland District of Cambridgeshire situated in the Fens between Huntingdon, March and Ely.

Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the town has evidence of continuous settlement from the Neolithic period and is locally reputed to have been the last refuge of Boudica as she fled from the Romans.  The parish of Chatteris is large - covering 6099 hectares, and for much of it's history was a raised island in the low-lying wetland of the Fens.  Following the draining of the Fens, beginning in the 17th Century and completed in the 19th Century, the town has become a centre of agriculture and related industry.

The cache itself is easily accessible and is a camoflaged container holding the log and you will need to bring your own pen. It is located on private ground with consent of the owners.

Congratulations to Islalou on claiming the FTF geocoin inside the Cache and thank you for leaving badges for 2nd and 3rd and thank you too for your kind words. Perditus and TOOT Phoenix, you now have my blessing to find and log the cache ;-)
