Gaudineer Knob Traditional Cache

This is a small ammo can located near the Gaudineer Knob overlook along the 0.5-mile loop trail.

Named in honor of early Monongahela National Forest district ranger Don Gaudineer, Gaudineer Knob is one of the most prominent points on Shavers Mountain. An easy walk along the 0.5-mile Gaudineer Loop Trail will lead you to one of the most scenic views in the Mon and this cache.

Important Visitor Notes

To access this cache, take US 250/WV 92 to just north (west) of the Randolph/Pocahontas county line. Follow FR 27 north for 1.8 miles then bear left on FR 27A. After 0.5 miles, it will end in a gravel parking lot with access to the Gaudineer Loop Trail that will take you to the cache. The roads are gravel but are easily accessible for a passenger car.

Winter: FR 27 and FR 27A are not maintained in the winter. Due to its high elevation, Gaudineer Knob can receive much more snow than the lower valleys. If FR 27 is snow-covered, you probably should not attempt this cache.
