Captain's Convention Series
Captain Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sulenberger is an American Airline captain, aviation expert and airline accident investigator, best selling author, speaker and consultant.
Captain Sully gained fame when he successfully ditched United Airways Flight number 919, after it was disabled by a flock of Canada geese during it's initial climb, into the Hudson River off Manhattan, New York City, on January 15, 2009. All of the 155 passengers and crew aboard the aircraft survived.
On February 24, 2009, he testified before the US House of Representative Subcommittees on Aviation of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, that his salary had been cut by 40 per cent and his pension had been terminated and replaced with a alternative that had a value of pennies on the dollar. He retired in March, 2010 after 30 years with the airline. In December 2010 he received the Legion of Honor.
