Geocache Description:

Hopefully whilst pretending to look at the view you will avoid Muggle suspicion!

There is no need to leave the pavement or trespass on private property.
Please do not park on this road as it is incredibly busy at times due to the ferry traffic. If you continue towards the ferry there is a pub you can park in for a cache and dash.

I placed it here to connect the town caches with 'Sir Harry' on Monument Hill.

This part of the River is in fact entirely down to a greedy merchant from Boldre called William Cross.
In 1731 he built a dam across the river to build up a good head of water for his Mill in the next village. He later turned it into a toll road... much to the annoyance of the townspeople.
In 1899 Lord Montague was driving King Edward VII across the toll road when the gatekeeper held them up due to non-payment. Apparantly the King was amused.
The Toll bridge is now called Bridge Road and is the road on your right as you look at the river from GZ.

To your left is a white house on the river. You can see the Slipway and the remains of a walkway where the river ferry plied its trade as a pedestrian alternative to the Toll bridge. The ferry was still running from here to Town quay up until around the 1930's.

Please be very careful on this road as it can be very busy during the warmer months and sometimes the less sensible of our population carry a lot of speed!
