Geocache Description:

A traditional cache, micro in size hidden not far from the station. The walk to the cache is easy and wheelchair users should be fine, maybe needing a little help at GZ. Please note this is a fairly busy junction so do employ stealth at all times.

On the 6th of July 1874, the Sidmouth Railway company opened a station here in Sidmouth and it is situated at the junction of Station Road and Alexandria Road. The line here was actually run originally by the L&SWR until becoming part of Southern Railways in 1923. Upon closure in May 1967, all lines in this region ran under British Rail (Western) and it is such a shame that the line had to close as it was still popular at the time. This has to be one of the best preserved stations not in use for the purpose it was designed for that I have seen since moving to Devon. Not a great deal has changed really and if you look on a satelite map you can see the shape of the yard etc. Well worth a visit.
