Dieser Cache ist recht leicht zu finden, und führt an einen der verrücktesten Orte in der Gegend: Ein altes Freibad tief im Wald!
Nach unserem Wissen war dies ein Schwimmbad, genutzt in den dreissiger Jahren, erbaut und gepflegt in Kooperation des Eppenhainer Landschulheimes und des Eppenhainer Hotels Haus Rossert.Die Idee war die "Ertüchtigung" Frankfurter Schulkinder, sowie das Ankurbeln des Fremdenverkehrs in Eppenhain. Interessanterweise war auf der Hangseite des Beckens keine Wand gebaut worden, sondern die Landschaft sowie der fütternde Bach gingen nahtlos in die Struktur über. Eröffnung erfolgte 1930. Leider war die Wassermenge des Baches,der auch heute noch das Becken speißt, schon früh ein Problem - es gab Sommer mit lächerlichen Wassermengen im Becken. Zusätzlich verdreckte das Bad recht schnell durch die nahe liegenden Bäume. Sehr bald war ein 2ter Weltkrieg da, und damit das endgültige Ende des Schwimmbades. Damals war die Anlage eine Lichtung im Wald, was heute schwer vorstellbar ist. Natürlich war das Schwimmbad nicht beheitzt.....man kann sich vorstellen, wie erfrischend das Badeerlebnis gewesen sein muss. Im Cache befinden sich Kopien des Eröffnungsfotos zum mitnehmen... Vorsicht mit Kleinkindern - Gefahr des Ertrinkens! This Cache is easy to locate, and brings You to one of the craziest places around: An old public Swimming Pool embedded deeply in the wood... To our knowledge this pool was built in the Thirties in cooperation with the Eppenhain Country School Home and the Hotel Rossert (both still present). The idea was to exercise schoolkids from Frankfurt on one hand an the intensification of tourism in the area on the other. Interestingly on the hillside edge there was no wall erected, but the landscape and its feeding stream blended into the structure. Openingceremony was in 1930. Unfortunately the little stream, which still is feeding the pool today, did not bring sufficient amounts of water in dry summers to successfully support the project. Additionally the structure got dirty by leafes and other woodly products. Pretty soon the Second World War brought an end the public pool. At that time the area was a clearing in the wood, hard to imagine today. Naturally the water was not heated...It is easy to imagine how refreshing a plunge must have been...
