Entrance to a formerly top secret military installation.
Ursvik has been an important base for the Swedish military, located at the southern end of the military training area Järvafältet.
My colleage Olle told me that he did decontamination trainings here in the 1970s, simulating attacks with chemical weapons on Sweden and how to get rid of the dangerous substances again! Even the Swedish Forces Chemical Research Instute (Försvarsmaktens kemiska ansalt) had facilities in Ursvik from 1941 to the 1980s. At those times the area was of course strictly controlled and unaccessible for the public. The military left some years ago and for a few months now even the last closed areas are open, even the surrounding fence is gone. In the Ursvik large housing neighborhoods now being build and I guess that even the heart of the area, the ammunition storage bunkers, will sooner or later be gone. Ammunition was brought to the area by it's own railway, the "Krutbanan" (which has it's own cache, GC2HMH6). The rails ended in front of an tunnel entrance. I have no idea what is behind the massive doors, but I guess it's a bombproof storage for artellery shells and smaller caliber ammunition.
I would like to get in there and look around, but I those tunnes will probably never be open for the public. GPS signal is weak right in front of the tunnel, so look at the spoiler before doing something dangerous! Not suitable for children!
