Geocache Description:

You are looking at a very good example of rock folds.

How were these folds formed? It started millions of years ago when the earth's crust was being compressed.

If you lay a piece of paper flat on the table, then start to press the two ends together, the paper begins to rumple up and fold into curves. Whenever the earth's crust is being compressed it too starts to fold up and down. The down folds are like saucers and are called Synclines. The up folds are like arches and are called Anticlines. This earthcache is a good example of both , tightly compressed. The rock is made up of layer of stone, strata, In this case quite thin, with distinct separations.

If you park down at the bridge you can walk up to this one. You can get quite intimate with it,  touch it, realise the size and wonder at the power of the earth.
What sort of stone is it? Well I'll let you find that out (easy  peazy ).

So, to claim this earthcache:

1. Email me with the type of stone it is made from.(this stone is common to all the area and is much quarried )

2. Approximately how thick are each of the folds and in the cleared part, that you can readily see. are the folds Synclines or anticlines.

It would be nice if you could post a photo of your gps'er resting on the folds in your log, this is purely optional. DO NOT step back in the road to do this, you are on a blind bend. Congratulations to Sickpit, FTF
