Previously, most of the larger lakes in the area drained to the south, towards Lärjeån via Kroksjöarna. Surte Glassworks, however, had so great need of water that they wanted to change the draining direction of the lakes, so they could use the water. This proposal was accepted in 1949. After this, canals were dug in between Surtesjön and Gäddevattnet, between Gäddevattnet and Stora Stentjärnen and between Stora Kroksjön and Skyrsjön. These three lakes nowadays has the same water level.
