[ENG] Forgotten dock and a harbour - easy multicache consisting of two stages in a historical environment on the island of Varjakka
[FIN] Varjakan saarella toimi ensimmäinen laivaveistämö jo vuosina 1852 – 1858. Varjakan saaren länsiosassa sijaitseva satama ja telakka olivat käytössä sahan toiminta-aikana vuosina 1900 – 1929, mutta myös sen jälkeen; telakka palveli jopa 1970 –luvulle saakka. Alueella sijainnut konepaja toimi vuoteen 1950, ja samana vuonna muuttivat viimeiset varsinaiset asukkaat pois saarelta.
Tämä kaksiosainen multikätkö esittelee varsinaisen telakan alkupisteen tuntumassa, loppupiste sijaitsee telakkaan kuuluneessa rakennusmiljöössä. Kun vaellat alkupisteeltä loppupisteelle, voit nähdä tällä välillä laajalla alueella betonisia perustuksia. Satama palveli sahan toiminta-aikana myös vientisatamana, tänne päättyi kapearaiteinen rautatie, jonka toinen päätepiste oli saaren itäpäässä.

Sulan veden aikaan saarelle pääsee myös Varjakan venesatamasta kapulalossilla.
Kapulalossin avaimet saa Warjakan Bar&Grillistä. Varaukset tehdään soittamalla Warjakan Bar&Grillin numeroon 040 1519987 klo 12.00-21.00 tai muina aikoina numeroon 0500 419951. Avaimet noudetaan Warjakan Bar&Grillistä osoitteesta Muikuntie 2, 90470 Oulunsalo.
[ENG] The first shipyard on the island of Varjakka was operational already between 1852 – 1858. The harbour and the dock in the western part of the island were used during the operational years of the sawmill, 1900 – 1929, but the dock served also after that, even in the 1970’s. The machine shop, located in this area, served until 1950, and that was also the year when the last inhabitants left the island.
This multicache consists of two phases; the first one presents the essential dock, and the second one presents some buildings closely related to the dock. When you trek from the first phase to the second, you can see a large area of concrete bases. The harbour served as export harbour during the operational years of the sawmill, and this area was also the endpoint of a narrow railroad, which started from the eastern part of the island.
