El cerro de las campanas es uno de los monumentos historicos más famosos de México, sin embargo también tiene importancia en lo que a Geología se refiere!
Probablemente fué en la fundación de la ciudad de Queretaro cuando se nombró a éste cerro el "cerro de las campanas" y és parte de la actividad necesaria para logear éste earth cache el descubrir la razón del nombre!
En el cerro encontrarás unas piedras (ver fotos 1 y 2) que podrás distinguir porque están levantadas sobre el suelo por una base de otras rocas y porque tienen pequeñas piedras encima.
Lo siguiente que harás si está permitido por el parque, ¿listo? toma una de las piedras pequeñas y golpea la piedra grande en el centro y escucha, si no escuchaste nada vuelve a intentarlo hasta que lo logres... ¿lo escuchaste? ¡muy bien!
Lo que acabas de escuchar és la razón por la que nombraron a éste cerro de ésta forma! y es generado porque la piedra que golpeaste tiene una muy alta concentración de metales en ella (especialmente Cobre, Hierro y Zinc), haciendo que emita éste sonido metálico tán singular.
El cerro de las campanas todavía está compuesto por muchas de éstas piedras, sin embargo la mayoría está fuera del alcance de los visitantes, y muchas de ellas incluso están bajo tierra.
Éstas rocas están clasificadas como sedimentarias, y se forman cuando particulas de tierra y minerales se asientan en el fondo de cuerpos de agua, a través de millones de años éstos minerales son presionados hasta que se convierten en rocas.
Para poder logear este EarthCaché deberás contestarme (por correo) dós preguntas basadas en la actividad que expuse previamente:
- ¿a qué te recuerda a ti el sonido que hicieron las piedras cuando las golpeaste?
- ¿por qué crees tu que estan levantadas del suelo las piedras?
Si puedes compartir fotos de ti golpeando las piedras en tu log sería genial!

The national park "cerro de las campanas" (in english "hill of the bells") is one of the moust prominent historical monuments of Mexico, BUT it is also a very interesting geological site!
It was probably during the foundation of the city of Queretaro that this hill was named the "hill of the bells" and it's part of the activity needed to log this EarthCache to find the reason for the name!
In the hill there are some rocks (se photos 1 and 2) that you will be able to distinguish because they are lifted from the ground by other rocks and have little stones above them.
The next step is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE by the park, ready? ok, grab one of the little stones and hit the big rock in the center, listen, if you heard nothing keep hitting it until you do... did you hear it now? excelent!
What you just heard is the reason for the name of the hill! and it's generated because the big rock you hit has high concentrations of metals in it (specially Copper, Iron and Zinc), making it sound a bit metallic each time you hit it.
The hill of the bells is still made up by lots of these stones, but they are out of the visitor's reach, and even underground.
These rocks are sedimentary, which means they were formed when tiny particles of dirt and minerals settled to the bottom of a body of water and were pressed during millions of years until they became solid rock.

- why do you think the stone is lifted from the ground?
