Edward & Edwina Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CJ-Curry: Maintenance person has come to check it out, and sent me photos.

The place where I originally put the cache is now gone, and is unlikely to be replaced in a way that houses a cache (at least, not for a good few years). There's nowhere else in the park where my maintenance person can place the cache in a way that keeps the spirit of the listing.

So, after nearly nine years, it's time to let this one go.

Thanks to the nearly 250 accounts that found this cache over the years, and to my maintenance person for keeping it alive for so long.

Geocache Description:

A quaint little park in the southern part of Ararat.

Edward The Emu and Edwina The Emu are the eponymous characters in a pair of children's books by Sheena Knowles and Rod Clement. Being sick of his life as an emu, Edward decides to try being another animal, but discovers his own life isn't so bad once he heads back to his own pen and discovers a surprise... In the sequel, Edwina goes job-hunting while Edward stays at the nest.

I have chosen these two books to represent this cache as it is placed in "Emu Park", an open but not-so-frequented little park in southern Ararat. This park is a good spot to take geokids or geodogs, but please be mindful that it is bounded by two roads, one of which serves as the major highway from Ararat to Hamilton and Warrnambool.

Additionally, Emu Park is within cooee of where I grew up. As such, I spent a lot of time in or near Emu Park. I have lamented several times that the place needs a little more love, so what better way than by introducing a cache to the area?

This can be treated as a rest stop for people travelling to/from Hamilton or Warrnambool, or simply as a drive-by. At certain times (especially just after school) a fair few muggles will be walking past, and at certain other times there will be a fair few drivers coming past. As such, stealth is essential during daylight hours, but bringing kids or a dog along is stealthy enough. Dusk through to early morning is the best time to search.

The cache is a camera film canister bison tube. It therefore has no room for swaps, and please BYO writing implement. It seems that the area is not great for GPS signals, but there's not much in the way of hiding places. Good luck!
