This small cache is a tribute to one woman who has created this lovely park. Have a go at GC486V6 and enjoy wandering through the park
The development of this lovely park has been a one woman show from the beginning. This suburb of Hout Bay surrounded an awful dump site – builders rubble, garden refuse etc. It was frequented mostly by vagrants.
In November 2002, a nearby neighbour decided to do something about this unsightly mess covering some 3 acres. With absolutely no financial backing she started asking for assistance. The City Council was persuaded to take away all the rubbish and a man clearing land for an estate gladly dumped his land fill material there. He was also persuaded to lend his front end loader to level the ground. Thereafter this outstanding woman and her gardener set about laying out the garden.
Most residents have no idea there is no backing at all for this project. The City Council occasionally mow the grass or else a local garden service helps out.
Carmel Community Park is great for kids and an asset to the suburb. We recently saw a number of nannies and their charges enjoying the jungle gyms. Carmel means friendship and togetherness
