Geocache Description:

My two Sniffey caches are located on the banks of Liffey River in Celbridge. Geocaching with dogs is highly recommended for this walk. You can walk from "The Old Abbey School" to "CAN you?" cache from this point. You will see Celbridge Abbey on the other bank of Liffey River which is permanently closed for visitors. You will also pass Rock Bridge - one of the oldest  stone bridges on Liffey - closed for visitors ancient stone footbridge. You can see two stone grottos as well. Enjoy this walk.

The Abbey National School was erected in 1849 on Celbridge Abbey grounds. The original schoolhouse consisted of two classrooms with a small rounded room at east end to provide living acomodation for a teacher. One classroom was officially the "Abbey Male National School" and the othet the "Abbey Female National School" and each school was completely independent of each other. Each had its own playgound, complete with dry toilets and small coalhouse at the rear. Abbey Female National School was closed down in 1878 and Abbez Male National School was closed down in 1961. All windows were bricked up and a few years ago the steel - glass extension was built at the west end of the school. Due to recession this place was never used so far. Container contains logbook, pencil and TB for FTF after replacement. Having Sniffey 1 just find your way upstream along the river, don't back to the road. If you can't do it, ask your dog, sniff sniff...
