Geocache Description:

Discovered this trail whilehaving a look at the entrance into the nre school being bult near Royal Oaks Golf Course. I live nearby and have a couple caches in the area. The old rail line is an ideal location fror some new caches. We decided to take the challenge and place some along the northeastern and southeastern leg of the line from the school driveway.

The Moncton & Buctouche Railway as a historic railway company in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. It was founded in 1883, at first as a Buctouche and Moncton Railway and built along a 30 mile section which branched off at Buctouche Junction to the east of MOncton on the Intercontinental Railway. It continued north to Buctouche, N.B. The rail line was opened on the 1st of September 1887 and was extended in the next year to MOncton, crossing the Intercontinental in Buctouche Junction. The raod had to fight with economic problems and was put up for compulsory auction at the end of 1894. The M&BR was bought by the Canadian government and was integrated into the Canadian Government Railways (CGR). In the same year Buctouche Junction was abondoned to Moncton and purchased by a private enterprise. The Canadian National Railway, which had been formed from various mergers in 1918 - 1924, including the GCR, closed the line to Buctouche on January 1, 1965.
